Homer gets bullied by Bart, as he can now control Homer. Marge seeks the help of the doctor, now living in a tree, to help father and son bond again. They do, and end up with Zander's tree as well.

Lisa becomes an apprentice when she meets the Great Raymondo, the most magical of magicians. He tells Lisa a secret about a magic trick, but when she develops a crush on a boy at school, Lisa accidentally leaks the secret out to a rival magician. However, the Raymondo has one last card tucked up his sleeve and when the rival magician sets to perform the trick, they try to stop him to do so. A quartet of magicians appear on the scene, who attempt to kill the Raymondo, but Lisa finds out they're no match for him.

In order to stop people from coming to him to get their hair cut, he styles Marge's hair for a party, amazing everyone, and tells them that Julio did it. Meanwhile, when Milhouse decides to live each day to the fullest, he comes out of his shell and professes his love for Lisa, only to have his heart broken. Milhouse then catches the eye of popular fifth-grader Taffy (guest star Kristen Schaal), causing Lisa to spy on them. When she reveals herself to them Taffy breaks up with Milhouse because he still loves Lisa and she kisses Milhouse to make him happy.

Lisa tries to return a key to Springfield Elementary, but she stumbles upon a abandoned classroom in the basement. She attempts to tell Skinner about the room, but when she returns, a bookcase blocks the dusty walls and the cobwebs leading to the room. Lisa becomes suspicious about a writing on the blackboard which involved Bus 23, a former bus used by the school on a field trip that never returned. Lisa and Bart, who has just won the key to the city, team up with Homer, who has stolen the Duff blimp, to try and find this mysterious Bus 23, which is submerged below the icy waters of the river. Meanwhile, Marge is on a continuous search for her noisy anniversary present.
