Season 24 starts on September 30, 2012 and ends in May 2013. This season was renewed along with a 25th season.[2]

To celebrate the premiere of Season 24, on September 28, 2012, players of iOS game The Simpsons: Tapped Out were greeted with a notice that to celebrate the premiere, they have been given a Duff racecar from the Springfield Grand Prix. A quest was then given to place the Duff racer.

When Bart's love life heats up again it will this time involve five flames. But when Bart learns that Mary has relocated to New York, he decides that she's the one that got away and embarks on a mission to track her down.[4]

The episode is set to feature a Back to the Future style story involving Homer and Marge, with Marge ending up with Artie Ziff in an alternative future scenario.[7] In "The Greatest Story Ever Holed" (the first segment), Professor Frink's unstable science experiment inadvertently created the black hole that slowly sucks in the town (and townspeople) of Springfield. The Simpsons adopt a mini-black hole that is growing more powerful. It has an interesting reaction to Bart feeding it his math homework. Comic Book Guy inserts Disney's The Black Hole into the black hole. In a found-footage parody is something really strange is going on in the Simpson house they are also have a segment about Mayan prophecy of the world ending this year.[8][9][6]

A Fat Tony episode guest starring Steve Carell who plays Dan Gillick, Fat Tony's accountant turned mob boss, when Fat Tony serves jury duty. Dan winds up joining Pin Pals as a replacement for Otto, who has suffered a psychotic breakdown.[12]

Homer doesn't trust banks, so has stashed Lisa's college fund in an online poker site. The actress and poker expert Jennifer Tilly pops up in an instructional DVD that Lisa watches to brush up on her card skills.[13]

A "cool family" from Portland moves in next door to the Simpsons. Homer is desperate to befriend them, while Marge is skeptical, thinking that being cool is not all it's cracked up to be.[14]

The town is infested with bedbugs, and Lovejoy can’t cope. He’s so boring, nobody will listen to him in the middle of this panic.[11] But then, the most lovable minister visits Springfield and he is much more popular than Reverend Lovejoy. Lovejoy becomes really upset and becomes a hot tub salesman.[15]Bart and Flanders are the only ones unhappy with the new minister, and try to figure out how to get Lovejoy back, despite Lovejoy loving his job.[11]

After Lisa has a reading kangaroo with a bunch of little joeys in it for the books Ms. Cantwell takes the joeys out and puts them in other kangaroos

Grampa disappears, so the Simpsons are trying to find him and they find out all these things they never knew about him, and Homer's surprised to discover his father had dreams and ambitions, which he is very shocked by.[11] Also, Anika Noni Rose plays a love interest from Grampa's past and happens to be a night club singer,[27] named Rita. It turns out that Rita was married to Grampa when Homer was still a child.[11]

Explores the life of Roger Meyers, Jr. and his struggle with trying to live up to the memory of his father. Meanwhile, Itchy & Scratchy Land closes down and Homer and Bart get a small steam train from the park, restore it and install it in their back garden. This attracts the attention of fellow model-train enthusiasts like Rev. Lovejoy and Comic Book Guy, who at first just want to help out, but then end up taking over.[28][29]

Lisa defends Bart in kid court. Bart is actually wrongly accused of a crime, of a prank and Lisa is his defender and she gets her comeuppance as always. She gets a little high on her horse.[31]

The Simpsons go to an amusement park where the lines for the rides are terrible, except for this one rocket called Journey to Your Future. They end up on Kang and Kodos' home planet Rigel VII.[32]
