Cultural references[edit]
- Will Wright floats on a "Sims Diamond".
- The video game cartridges that are seen burning in the background of the level, as well as in the cutscenes, resemble those functional with the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), a popular video game console from the mid-1980's to the early 1990's, when it was succeeded by the Super Nintendo.
- When Homer turns into Homer Ball, Bart says "You're like a morbidly obese Mycroft Holmes".
- The "Chasm Death" cliché says "Expect a plagiarism lawsuit from Wile E. Coyote", referencing Wile E. Coyote from Looney Tunes.
- Will Wright mentions having the Baha Men on the show.
Continuity[edit]
- The computer that Bart uses to cheat is the same one Homer bought in the episode "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes"
- 8-Bit Bart will sometimes say "I'll never live to put mothballs in the beef stew!" (Do the Bartman)
- He'll also say "Save the Bartman! Save the Bartman!" another reference to the song.
- 8-Bit Homer will sometimes say "If I die I'll never live my lifelong dream of starting an emu farm!" (Lard of the Dance)
