The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, which was adapted into a 1989 animated feature film by the Walt Disney Company. The story and film have been referenced several times in The Simpsons.

His fantasy sequence, Underwater Wonderland, is a parody of the "Under the Sea" musical number from Disney's "The Little Mermaid", only here Homer eats all the fish and other sea creatures.
10 219 "Make Room for Lisa" Homer asks Lisa what her favorite movie is? She answers: "'The Little Mermaid', until you taped over it."
14 299 "The Dad Who Knew Too Little" At the hotel Lisa says her name is: "Lady Penelope Ariel Ponyweather".

Bart is amazed that the story wasn't thought up by Disney, but Hans Christian Andersen. Homer then mentions the crab was the only good thing about the movie.
