All in the Family was a critically acclaimed but controversial 1971-1979 sitcom starring Carroll O'Connor as the dim-witted conservative and prejudiced Archie Bunker, Jean Stapleton as his square but jolly wife Edith, Rob Reiner as Archie's left-wing son-in-law Mike Stivic and Sally Struthers as Archie's daughter and Mike's wife Gloria. The scripts were written by Norman Lear. The Simpsons have parodied this show a few times.
