Cultural references

• The episode title is a pun on the classic Henny Youngman one-liner, "Take my wife, please" which was also punned in the title of the Season 11 episode, "Take My Wife, Sleaze".
• In the episode's couch gag, the Simpsons chase the couch in San Francisco, Venice, the outer space and India.
• Paul Yield, the inventor of the Yield sign, has its head in the inverted triangular shape of the sign.

Former vice president Al Gore talks to his Nobel Peace Prize medal and thinks that the 2000 US presidential election was stolen from him

• Former American vice president Al Gore appears at Moe's and makes a reference to the 2000 United States presidential election, one of the closest elections in US history, where he lost against George W. Bush.
  • He also talks to the image of Alfred Nobel in his Nobel Prize medal. Gore earned the Nobel Peace Prize back in 2007.
• When Lisa counts the ballots for Homer's class president election, one of the votes is cast for Fonzie from the American sitcom Happy Days.
• Homer swears to get back at Principal Dondelinger saying "I know what he did that summer", a reference to the film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
• Homer wants Bart to drive back to the clubhouse and buy him a Tom Collins cocktail.
• "Jive Talkin'" by the Bee Gees is heard when Principal Dondelinger explains why he spoiled Homer's presidential election.

Goofs

• When everybody is clapping when Vance Connor is introduced to the Hall of Fame, you can see Maude Flanders in the crowd, despite the fact that she died in the Season 11 episode "Alone Again, Natura-Diddily".
• The position of Paul Yield's plaque changes between shots.
• It is shown that Smithers was already working for Mr. Burns when Homer went to high school, meaning that he is older than Homer. However, in "The Blunder Years", it is shown that he was a baby when Homer was 12 years old. On the other hand, in a flashback of "Bye, Bye, Nerdie", it was shown that both were studying together at the same time.
