Cultural references

• The title is a parody of the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
• Superintendent Chalmers thinks Seymour Skinner's shoes are Hush Puppies. However, according to Seymour, they were "Shush Mutts" bought at the Try-N-Save.
• Chalmers refers to Milhouse as a "lone prankster", a play-on lone wolf, and "funman", a play on "gunman".
• Kirk is watching Mad Money with Jim Cramer, an American finance TV program.
• Bart thinks future Jenny will have "more curves than a Hot Wheels track".
• Lisa uses Oogle, a parody of Google, to search how Springfield will look like in 50 years.
• Bart invites Jenny on a date to eat PB&J, but without peanut butter and with "double" jelly.

• When Milhouse claimed that Bart forgot about him when he was dating Jenny, Bart replied to him that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were friends and didn't see each other for years, which was something he learned when watching the John Adams miniseries. Jefferson and Adams had been good friends in the first decades of their political careers but the Federalist/Republican split of the 1790s divided them. The two men did not communicate directly for more than a decade but later reconciled.
  • Milhouse refers to Jenny as Bart's Abigail Adams. Abigail was the wife of John Adams.

• "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin is heard when Lisa is under the influence of Ignorital in her bedroom.
• Bart once made a dolphin swim in 7 Up soda.
• At the Kwik-E-Mart, Bart drinks a Squishee with a picture of Shrek on it. A trivia is at the bottom of the Squishee cup and gives a 10% discount for the Shrek films DVDs if answered correctly. According to Apu, however, the discount does not apply for Shrek's first and second film. Shrek the Third, which was the last Shrek film before this episode aired, had not as good critical reception as the previous two films of the franchise.
• A reference to the Super Bowl XLIII is on the Duff's sign that Lenny buys at the Kwik-E-Mart.
• Raphael uses a Zamboni to ice the school's floor.
• "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II is heard at the school when the kids and Willie are ice skating.

Trivia

• Jenny resembles Samantha Stanky from "Bart's Friend Falls in Love". Ironically, the exact reverse of the episode's events seem to be the main plot line.
• Milhouse said "Hello Bart" in a similar fashion to Sideshow Bob.
• The title is a reference to characters. (The good to Jenny, the sad to Milhouse and the drugly to Lisa).
  • It is also a reference to the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
