Bart and Homer are sent back to World War II, where they meet a young Grampa and Mr. Burns in the army. [[Abraham Simpson|Sergeant Simpson]] informs Homer and Bart about their mission: Germany plans to attack the French city of St. de Capitulons, which supplies snails to the French Army. Homer and Bart parachute into the city, where they see Üter throw a rock at a window, causing the French to surrender with white flags. Abe and Burns order them to remove the surrender flags scattered around the town. Private Burns suggests looting French paintings "for safekeeping". After collecting all the flags, Homer and Bart must escort a truck carrying the paintings through Kasserine Pass filled with tanks and mines. After safely escorting the truck, they learn Burns has stolen the paintings and taken them to his aircraft carrier, the U.S.S Reel Crazy. The Hellfish squad provides air support while Homer and Bart board the ship. Homer uses C4 explosives to destroy rocket launchers, and Bart uses air currents to reach Burns' platform and defeat him. Back in St. De Capitulons, the French thank Homer and Bart for returning the paintings, and one even kisses Homer, tickling him with his moustache. Bart asks Homer if he can drink wine like the other kids, but Homer refuses. They later discover the Hellfish keycard hidden behind one of the paintings.

The French are ready to surrender, with white flags everywhere. Your goal is to remove all the white flags, which are mostly on buildings but citizens carry some. To find the flags, press Back and Y to open the map. Start as Bart and collect flags on the left, then move to the right side of the village, focusing on the rooftops. You can get 22 out of 24 flags in the village as Bart. The last two flags are at the church—one by the waterwheel and the other on top of the steeple.

On the U.S.S Reel Crazy, make your way from the deck to the crow’s nest. Use Bartman’s grapple to reach the lever, making sure Homer is on the orange boat. Homer plants C4 on steel doors, and Bart glides up using updrafts created by explosions. Kick down life preservers for Homer as you go. Use C4 to destroy turret guns, then climb nets and fight through sailors to advance. Continue using C4 and updrafts to navigate, kick down life preservers for Homer, and clear turret guns. "Medal of Homer" is the thirteenth level of The Simpsons Game. To open the door of the creator's mansion, the Simpsons have to get the four keycards in the four worlds created by the creator. The third portal takes Homer and Bart to the World War II, with younger Abraham and Mr. Burns.

Description[edit]

After completing the "Bargain Bin" level, four new levels unlock at the Game Hub. While you can choose any order, the story leads to this level next. It's the first level where Bart can use his wrist rocket for more range and damage, and his super-cape to glide further for a longer time. The level is split into three areas, each set in a different location.

Plot[edit]

Image for Medal of Homer

Bart and Homer are sent back to World War II, where they meet a young Grampa and Mr. Burns in the army. Sergeant Simpson informs Homer and Bart about their mission: Germany plans to attack the French city of St. de Capitulons, which supplies snails to the French Army. Homer and Bart parachute into the city, where they see Üter throw a rock at a window, causing the French to surrender with white flags. Sergeant Simpson and Private Burns order them to remove the surrender flags scattered around the town.

Gameplay[edit]

Xbox 360/PS3 Version[edit]

The city of St. de Capitulons

In Kasserine Pass, start by destroying the landmines and shooting the turrets and tanks ahead using Bart's slingshot or Homer's Gummi form. Stay ahead of the truck and take out the weapons to keep it safe. If you run out of ammo, switch to Bart or break crates for more. (Xbox 360/PS3 version only)

On the U.S.S Reel Crazy, make your way from the deck to the crow's nest. Use Bartman's grapple to reach the lever, making sure Homer is on the orange boat. Eventually, Bart reaches level D-5, and Homer follows by blowing doors and pipes. Finally, use the helium tank to float Homer up to the crow's nest. Bart uses updrafts to reach Burns. Beat Burns, collect the paintings, and grab the keycard. Mission complete!

Wii/PS2/PSP Version[edit]

The aircraft carrier.
Africa.

The first area, St. De Capitulons, is mostly the same, but you need to collect 20 flags instead of 24, and some flags are in different spots:

  • After the cutscene, turn left to grab the first flag.
  • Turn left and look up for the second flag on a balcony. Jump to reach it.
  • Off the balcony, look down to find the third flag near a door by a bread barrel.
  • Head left to find platforms leading to the fourth flag.
  • Jump under the bridge nearby and break debris with Homer Ball to get the fifth flag.
  • Look for a balcony nearby with the sixth flag and grapple with Bart to reach it.
  • From the rooftop, look down for the seventh flag.
  • Use awnings to reach a balcony for the eighth flag.
  • Glide with Bart to the chimney, then to a balcony for the ninth flag.
  • Break debris under a bridge with Homer Ball to find the tenth flag.
  • Glide to another rooftop for the eleventh flag.
  • Ride the smoke current to a high balcony for the twelfth flag.
  • Use a zipline to reach the thirteenth flag.
  • Jump to a rooftop, grab the fourteenth flag.
  • On the back side of a platform, grab the fifteenth flag.
  • Use a cow as a platform to get the sixteenth flag.
  • Use ramps with Homer to reach the seventeenth flag.
  • Climb ivy to grab the eighteenth flag on a rooftop.
  • Use a helium tank to float up to a high balcony for the nineteenth flag.
  • Destroy debris under a bridge to find the final flag.

This version for some reason cuts out the Kasserine Pass section, so it skips to Burns' aircraft carrier. Move across the catwalk, position Homer on the boat, and use Bart to grapple across a gap. Pull the lever to bring the boat over. Homer plants C4 to destroy doors and Bart shoots targets to reveal climbing poles. Continue planting C4 and riding air currents to reach higher levels. Keep progressing by destroying obstacles, planting C4, and using air currents to glide. Bart can pull levers to drop ladders for Homer. Eventually, use helium tanks to reach higher areas and glide across gaps. Finally, use Bart's abilities to reach Private Burns, ending the level.

Things To Do[edit]

Wii/PS2/PSP Xbox 360/PS3
  • Rendezvous with Grandpa Simpson and Private Burns
  • Collect all of the surrender flags
  • Reach Private Burns
  • Rendezvous with Grampa Simpson and Private Burns
  • Collect all of the flags
  • Protect and escort the truck through the canyon
  • Knock out Private Burns

Wii/PS2/PSP Version[edit]

Duff Caps

  • Homer's 1st bottlecap is next to the 7th flag on the balcony.
  • After launching across a ramp to reach the isolated building, use another ramp to find Homer's 2nd bottlecap.
  • In the same building as Bart's 5th Koupon, destroy barrels, enter, and open the orange slab to find Homer's 3rd bottlecap.
  • Before grabbing the final surrender flag, jump on an awning trampoline to reach a high balcony with Homer's 4th bottlecap.
  • After dropping a ladder on the aircraft carrier, run to the right and find Homer's 5th bottlecap on top of some metal boxes.
  • Use a helium tank to float up and find Homer's 6th bottlecap near the satellite.
  • Glide with Bart up the air current and shoot the red barrels to uncover Homer's 7th bottlecap. Use helium to reach it on the same platform.

Krusty Koupons

  • After getting the 4th flag, walk along the platform to the left of the brown building where the 3rd flag was. Shoot the barrels to reveal Bart's 1st Krusty Koupon, then grapple up and glide down to collect it.
  • After getting the 10th flag, use the awnings to reach the top of the high building. Glide to a nearby building to find Bart's 2nd Koupon.
  • Near the fountain in the first area, switch to Homer and use Homer Ball to break a part of the building, revealing Bart's 3rd Koupon. Switch back to Bart, jump onto an awning, and climb up to collect it.
  • After getting the 16th flag, cross the cow-path to an elevated platform where Bart's 4th Koupon is in plain sight.
  • At the back of the isolated building, destroy barrels in front of a door. Enter, open an orange slab, and find Bart's 5th Koupon (and Homer's 3rd bottlecap).
  • After getting the 18th flag at the top of the building, Bart's 6th Koupon is nearby on the same roof.
  • After reaching the flight deck of the aircraft carrier, plant C4 on the anti-aircraft gun to reveal an air current. Ride it up to grab Bart's 7th Koupon.
  • On the bridge of the aircraft carrier, destroy a door and a pipe, then drop down to a lower level and find Bart's 8th Koupon around the corner.
  • After activating the smokestacks on the aircraft carrier, ride them across to find Bart's 9th and final Koupon in plain view.
