Opening sequence[edit]
- The episode couch gag was animated by John Kricfalusi, who is best known for being the creator of The Ren & Stimpy Show.
- Bart's mask in the couch gag is a mask of Huckleberry Hound.
- Lisa's mask in the couch gag is a mask of Yogi Bear.
Wanted: Dead, Then Alive[edit]
- The segment Wanted: Dead, Then Alive's title is a reference to Wanted Dead or Alive, which has a lot of meanings through popular culture.
- Pictures of Beethoven and Bach can be seen in the music classroom. Also, the Polonaise sheet music is on the wall.
- Milhouse has an American Girl doll wallpaper on his cellphone. These dolls were released in 1986.
- Sideshow Bob mentions Nijinsky, one of the greatest ballet dancers of the 20th century, and two ballet-related terms: Pas de deux and Plié.
- "I Killed Bart Dead" is based on "Largo al factotum" from The Barber of Seville.
- During the song, Bob mentions Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
- fiendbook is a parody of Facebook.
- Sideshow Bob talks about "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and reads a fictional book about the author, T. S. Eliot, The complete works of T. S. Eliot except "Cats".
- Sideshow Bob later mentions Cats, the musical which was based on a poetry collection by T. S. Eliot.
- The students at Bob's class are using smartphones and computers to surf Oogle, a parody of Google.
- A student of Springfield University references Game of Thrones in one of his works.
- Bob makes a reference to Snapchat.
- Sideshow Bob is positive about resuscitating Bart, and he compares that to the "comeback of White Zinfandel". Zinfandel is a wine grape that was rediscovered after the Prohibition years have passed.
- Outside the black arts building, Bob drinks something that turns him into a frog. Bob then says he feels like a bad New Yorker cartoon, a reference to The New Yorker magazine known for its cartoons and satires.
- The song "Accidents Will Happen" by Elvis Costello plays during the montage showing Sideshow Bob killing Bart in different ways and reanimating him.
- The Reanimation machine is a homage to the movie Re-Animator.
Homerzilla[edit]
- The segment Homerzilla's title and the segment itself are parody of the original 1954 Godzilla and the 1998 American remake and subsequent renaming of that film's monster to Zilla.
Agnes is a parody of Yubaba's bird from Spirited Away, while Seymour appears as a box kite like he did in "Married to the Blob"
- When flying behind Abe, Agnes Skinner resembles Yubaba's bird from Spirited Away.
- The samurai performs seppuku when Abe's ghost joins him.
- Homerzilla steps on a Dojo, a place for immersive learning or meditation.
- Disco Stu was singing "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" (with the lyrics changed "ole" to "old") by Tony and Dawn Orlando before Homerzilla destroyed the power lines.
- Green Hornet, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Patience are referenced in posters.
- A reference to card game Solitaire can also be seen.
- The Grumple is a parody of The Grinch.
- Krusty mentions PETA.
- A parody of Gamera appears in the 'Homerzilla' film.
- Comic Book Guy is in the theater to get a good seat for the next Star Wars movie, which he criticizes beforehand. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in late 2015, the same year this episode was aired.
Telepaths of Glory[edit]
- The segment Telepaths of Glory's title is a reference to the movie 'Paths of Glory.
- TelePaths of Glory parodies the movie Chronicle.
- Scrat from Ice Age makes a brief appearance, and is voiced by Chris Wedge, who voiced him in the movies.
- Fred Flintstone from The Flintstones appears underground as a skeleton in his foot-powered car from the series.
- Homer mentions the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
- Milhouse lift some Mo'ais at the Simpsons front yard using his powers.
- When Milhouse summons the stone faces out of the ground, it's a reference to the manga and anime Fairy Tail.
- The bare-chested man on horseback is Vladimir Putin.
- Maggie turns Homerzilla into a large Barney the Dinosaur.
- The smiling sun is a reference to the sun from the Teletubbies.

Continuity[edit]
- This is the second time a "Treehouse of Horror" segment has featured Homer as a classic giant monster. ("Treehouse of Horror III")
- Bart and Lisa previously acquired superpowers from radiation. ("Treehouse of Horror X")
- This is the second time where Bart and Lisa have special powers, but Lisa is much more powerful than Bart because of her intelligence. ("Treehouse of Horror XII")
- This is the third episode someone in the Simpson Family lost their memory. ("Regarding Margie", "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind")
- A cloth version of Mr. Sparkle billboard appears. ("In Marge We Trust")
- Frank Grimes' tomb appears in the couch gag and he emerges from the tomb as a zombie monster. ("Homer's Enemy")
- The witch that turned everyone into their costumed characters appears in the couch gag. ("Treehouse of Horror XVI")
- Russ Cargill's Fiendbook post references the Dome and the year references the release date of the movie, it being ten years after. (The Simpsons Movie)

Trivia[edit]
- Kang and Kodos break the fourth wall talking about making a cameo appearance, 4:3 and season 4.
- This episode is the first "Treehouse of Horror" episode not to feature a title card and the first to have two segments linked together (Homerzilla and Tele'Paths of Glory, both having Homerzilla).
- The production code TABF18 appears on the tests that Sideshow Bob is correcting as the course number.
- One of the pre-release images for Tele'Paths of Glory have Lisa playing various instruments with her powers while Homer and Bart watch her. But in the final version, Bart is not present and Homer interrupts her, saying that "The musicians union does not allow this!", which makes her drop all the instruments.
- Gracie Films logo's scream was replaced by Homerzilla roaring.
Goofs[edit]
- When Lisa and Santa's Little Helper first look into the window and see Bart in the basement, there are no bars on the window but when the camera angle changes in the next scene, the bars appear.
- After Sideshow Bob tried the reanimator machine for the first time, there's a skull with two wires connected to its eye holes on the background. After the second test, however, it's gone.
- During the montage, the word "Reanimate" on the machine appears only when Sideshow Bob pulls the lever, but when the family rescues Bart, it's shown in its normal position.
- Due to Homerzilla eating all of the donuts, it's unlikely the fishes were getting fat and ugly because of them.
- The title is inaccurate as Bart, Lisa and Milhouse gain telekinesis rather than telepathy.
- Milhouse killed Dolph by throwing him on a volcano, but he reappears later at the "whack-a-mole" game with the other bullies.
