Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to the MTV Series Girl Code.
- Homer has a poster with a photo of Elizabeth Warren in his office.
- Homer doodled on a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NCR) report.
- Marge shows Smithers his posts on Facelook, a parody of Facebook.
- The school's new coding teacher, Quinn Hopper, mentions several concepts related to coding: Asynchrony, the famous programming language JavaScript, malware and ciphertext.
- She assesses the class as a "real pencil fest", a reference to "sausage fest", but here scaled down to boys.
- She refers to Lisa as "Silicon Sally", a pun on Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is a region mostly associated with the high-tech industry.
- Mr. Burns asks Smithers if he's playing the game Grindr. Grindr is an online dating application for gay, bi, trans, and queer people.
- Burns tells Smithers that play-on-words are for "crosswords and Kazurinskys". He is referring to American actor Tim Kazurinsky, who is known for doing celebrity impersonations.
- Burns wants his goons to pay a visit Marge, but Smithers tells him they are in Phoenix. Then, Burns wants his "Irish ruffians" to go instead, to which Smithers responds they are "still laid up after eating that moldy soda bread". Soda bread is a typical food from Ireland.
- The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant intern Angry Ricky went to Northwestern University.
- When Marge wishes that an app could tell her what would happen if she posted the image that got Homer fired, the Apple Mac startup sound plays and there is an icon of the Apple iPad app Tips above Lisa's head.
- Quinn Hopper rejected all the kids other than Lisa from coding class ("You're all terrible") and sent them to do CrossFit.

- Two women dressed as Hitler that would be banned from the Museum of Tolerance.
- Bob from Bob's Burgers', whose restaurant would be "boycotted by short people" due to what the blackboard had written on. The "Burger of the Day" blackboard is a running gag from Bob's Burgers.
- The Burger of the Day "Short People got no Braisin' to Rib Burger" is a parody of the Randy Newman song, "Short People (got no reason to live)."
- Krusty ruining his career. Krusty can be seen exiting an airplane with angry black people waiting for him holding a
#HasKrustyLandedYetsign. This is a reference to the Justine Sacco incident. Sacco made a racist comment on Twitter related to AIDS before boarding a plane to South Africa. A hashtag,#HasJustineLandedYet, began to trend worldwide with a great repulsive reaction from people towards her. Only after landing Sacco found out she had been fired and she realized the outcome of her tweet being posted. - An American footballer holding a plate with crab legs who would be drafted in a later round. This is a reference to American footballer Jameis Winston: Winston was once accused of stealing crab legs from a store. During the time of the accusation, Winston was projected to be the first overall selection in the following NFL draft.
- Homer mentions both Siri and Amazon when asking for a beer delivered by a drone.
- The BBC is mentioned by Lisa, although the shows Conrad mentions are fictional.
- At the Odyssey Diner:
- The characters dance sirtaki, a popular dance of Greek origins, while the music played is "Zorba's Dance" from the film Zorba the Greek.
- Homer smashes a plate on the floor. Plate smashing is common during celebrations.
- Everyone says "Opa!" when they finish dancing. "Opa" is a common expression in the Greek culture and is used in celebrations such as weddings or traditional dancing. "Opa" is repeated many times throughout the episode.
Cribble is the "Filipino" version of Google. A map of the Philippines can be seen on the store's sign
- Quinn refers to Cribble as the "Filipino Google".
- Comic Book Guy mentions Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin.
- Conrad mentions Candy Crush.
- Quinn says that Steve Wozniak put in so many hours on creating the first Apple computer.
- A character similar to Wozniak and his dog "Chip" appear at the AppCrush convention.
- Homer greets Moe saying "Kalimera, Moe!", meaning "Good morning".
- The Greek man wants Moe to try Ouzo, an aperitif that is widely consumed in Greece. "Socrates' Revenge" can be read on the bottle label. A Homer-like Socrates can be seen later on Moe's roof.

- Cribble is a reference to Google (although there is an app named Cribble)
- Call of Daddy is a reference to Call of Duty.

- Ripcord is a real app.
- Conrad said to Lisa for her not to ignore him like an update from Adobe. That's a reference to some Adobe programs which had updates so often that they started to be ignored by many people.
- Horatio McCallister and Herman can be seen blowing candles of cakes with a Confederate flag icing. This flag is often associated with racism in the United States.
- Quinn Hopper mentions Bridgestone tires.
- One of the Conrad's friend apps is Gulp, a reference to Yelp.
- Conrad talks about WikiLeaks.
- The text on the mainframe when Lisa first walks over is the command line help from the microcontroller flashing utility avrdude.
- Homer gets his payment for working at the Diner, but is only 2,000 drachmas. The Greek drachma was the currency used before the euro was introduced in 2001.
- Greek references during the credits include:
- Lenny and Carl as satyrs dancing with Homer.
- Two flags of Greece.
- A Gyro rotisserie. Gyro is derived from lamb, and a bighorn sheep can also be seen.
- The three-headed Santa's Little Helper is a reference to Cerberus.
- Bart is a reference to the Greek god Hermes. He is using a winged helmet and holding the caduceus.

Trivia[edit]
- The SWOT analysis on the bulletin board on the wall behind Lisa on "What if computers ran the world?" has a card reading "No more religion" in each one of the sectors. Matt Groening is proported to be an atheist.
Goofs[edit]
- Lisa's blue hair point changes position (left vs. right) several times over the course of the episode.
- At the first coding class, Lisa was sitting behind Cosine, but when the kids were mocking Quinn because of her gender, Lisa was replaced by a tan-skinned boy with a cyan sweater. In later scenes, she's still sitting behind Cosine and the boy is beside her.
- When Lisa first shows Homer the mainframe, the color of her necklace changes from red to white in one scene.
