The sixteeenth season of The Simpsons began on November 7, 2004 with "Treehouse of Horror XV", and ended on May 15, 2005 with "The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star". The season contained twenty-one episodes, all of which were released on DVD and Blu-ray in December 2013.

This season, Alf Clausen was nominated for the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore) for "Treehouse of Horror XV",[1] and "Future-Drama" was also nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming less than One Hour).

Michael Price won a Writers Guild of America Award for animation for "Mommie Beerest", and in 2006 Matt Warburton, Don Payne and J. Stewart Burns were nominated for the same award but for "The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star", "Thank God It's Doomsday" and "There's Something About Marrying" respectively.[2][3]

In 2005, "On a Clear Day I Can't See My Sister" and "Goo Goo Gai Pan" were nominated for the Best Television Episodic Comedy and the Turner Award respectively in the Environmental Media Awards.[4]

Selma, decides she wants a baby rather than grow old alone. Adoption is suggested, but the Springfield orphanage is empty. Lisa suggests adopting a baby girl from China. One problem: the Chinese government only allows married couples to adopt. No problem; Selma writes down a name for her husband - Homer's - and "The Simpsons are going to China!" (with Marge acting as Bart and Lisa's nanny) so Selma and Homer can pick up the baby together.
