Cultural references

• The title is a play on the phrase "Revenge is a dish best served cold", which was popularized by Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,^[1] although the saying predates that film.
• Homer requests his favorite story, The Count of Monte Cristo, unaware that Marge already told it. Interestingly, a Monte Cristo is also a type of sandwich, which may explain why Homer likes it so.
• Bartman faces the Toker (a play on The Joker, portrayed by stoner Otto Mann), the Diddler (a play on the Riddler, actually Ned Flanders), Mr. Mole (Imitating Mr. Freeze who is Hans Moleman), Sugar and Spice (Patty and Selma imitating two of Two-Face's minions), and Lenny as (Poison Ivy) who explains he's not a villain but a transvestite. Additionally, Snake's character is visually based on members of Hydra while his character is similar to Cobra

• Homer claims to have shot Mr. Burns and pinned it on Maggie, which is a reference to "Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part Two)". Homer lied however as Maggie shot him herself and Mr. Burns backed that up.
• Ham and Cosine make returns in this episode. They were first seen in "Bart's Comet".
• The Sheriff appears at the party in "Bartman Begins". "Kill the Alligator and Run"

Goofs

• When the policemen burst into Homer and Marge's bedroom, Homer gasps, but there is no sound.
• The "Star Wars deaths list" incorrectly lists Darth Maul, who merely has his legs cut off and Sy Snootles, who only appears in the musical segment and does not actually die.
• In addition, Snootles is misspelt "Snoodles"
