Cultural references[edit]

  • The name of the segment "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid" is an obvious reference to the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still".
  • The opening segment is a parody of the Tales from the Cryptkeeper television show, and even uses its theme music.
  • The Golem bears a very strong resemblance to the Golem of the three silent The Golem movies, which were made in Germany and came out in 1915, 1917 and 1920.
  • "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid" is very likely a reference to the Fallout series, as the whole city of Springfield is turned into a post-apocalyptic world after the alien attack. The ending song is "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" by The Ink Spots which is used in the third game of the series, Fallout 3, specifically in the opening scene of the game.
  • Sir Mix-a-Lot makes a parody of his best known song, "Baby Got Back" called "Baby Likes Fat" which plays when Homer starts eating people.
  • When Kang and Kodos invaded Earth, Kodos remarks that "we had to invade! They were working on weapons of mass Disintegration!" which is a reference to how American soldiers invaded Iraq because George H. W. Bush claimed they were working on Weapons of Mass Destruction.
  • The chaos in Springfield after the radio broadcast of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds could be based off the mass hysteria in some parts of America and how many people died during the confusion.
  • Chief Wiggum's line "Why don't I just punch you in the nose, Bud?" and Orson Welles' reaction "Nosebud" are references to Citizen Kane. 'Rosebud' is the final word of the protagonist in the film, Charles Foster Kane, played by Orson Welles.

Trivia[edit]

  • For unknown reasons when Bart told the Golem not to kick Homer's wall, the word "balls" was blocked.
  • All stories make a reference to World War II.
    • In "Married to the Blob", before the 2 Germans die, the first one says "What did we Germans do to deserve this", then he says "Oh, right". Bart says in "You Know When You Need to Golem" "Oh it's always the Jew's fault". Finally in "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid", Lenny asks why Grampa called the First World War its current title and he says "You'll see".
  • After Homer eats some fat German men at an Oktoberfest, he remarks "Must eat more fat people. Thank God I live in America."
  • Al Jean's Halloween name references July 27, 2007, the release date of The Simpsons Movie in the United States
