Springfield State Building is a skyscraper in Springfield.

History

Homer visited the building when he tried to kill himself. He climbed to the jump section on the roof of the building where a guy pushed him down as he was taking too long considering whether to jump or not. In the air, Homer realized he didn't want to die and he grabbed in Otto, who was bungee-jumping from the building, hence surviving.

Behind the Laughter

The building is a reference to the Empire State Building, in name and appearance.
