Synopsis[edit]
- Due to an error, Lisa gets called up for jury duty. Despite her insisting that she's only eight and should be ineligible for jury duty, she is made to take part in a trial. Meanwhile, Marge becomes obsessed with her Pedalon exercise bike and her new instructor, Jesse.
Plot[edit]
Marge is watching TV, where a commercial for an exercise bike by Pedalon appears, and she asks Homer to buy one, but he refuses. When Marge starts crying, Homer agrees to buy it—and anything else that comes on TV. When the TV starts showing a car, a yacht, and a giraffe, Homer attacks it and brings it down to the ground before going to a Pedalon shop and buying the bike, though it's really expensive.
After having it brought home, with great difficulty, Homer starts assembling it and gets no help from Bart, who steals his wallet after Homer gets stuck in the frame. After Bart gets back from Itchy & Scratchy Land, he finds Homer asleep and Marge assembling the bike. Marge starts the lessons after selecting a good-looking instructor, Jesse.
After the first lesson, the kids get back home and Lisa receives a jury summons in her name. She tries to throw it away but reads that doing so would result in six months in prison. Marge keeps exercising all day, upsetting Homer, while Lisa goes to the prospective juror room. She tries to get out of jury duty, but the officer denies her request after observing her appearance and formal language.
In bed, Marge exercises in her sleep, and Homer wakes up concerned. His concern grows when she says Jesse's name instead of his, prompting him to go to Moe's for beers and advice. There, he finds the other husbands also complaining. Meanwhile, at the trial, Lisa sits with the rest of the jury being selected by Judge Harm.
Jesse invites Marge on a private ride in the Cool Down Lounge, where he takes her on a virtual tour around the world. She accepts, paying $299, to Maggie's disapproval. In the courtroom, Chief Wiggum makes a fool of himself in the witness chair while Lisa complains about the farce of the trial. Meanwhile, Marge begins the private ride on the Great Wall of China. When Homer gets home with roses, he sees the scene and becomes furious, then goes back to Moe's.
At Moe's, Homer suggests taking Jesse down, and Reverend Lovejoy gives him Jesse's location. In court, defense attorney Gil embarrasses himself, and Lisa protests to the judge. The judge finds Lisa's remarks offensive and holds her in contempt of court. The trial ends in a mistrial, and the defendant goes free, enraging Lisa.
At Jesse's home, one of his many private rides is interrupted by a knock at the door. Homer punches him, and they start fighting in front of the camera. Marge, seeing this, gets on Lisa's bike to go save him. She rescues Homer by pushing Jesse down the Great Wall's side after discovering his fake private ride setup. They go back home together on the bike.
During the ride, they pass through Lard Lad Donuts and buy donuts, while Kirk burns down the now out-of-business Pedalon shop. In the end, Lindsey Naegle goes to a Pedalon shop to buy a bike, but Jesse is stopped from selling it to her by Gil, who is now working there.
