- Skinner (as Tin Man), Chalmers (as Cowardly Lion) and Willie (as Scarecrow) dressed as the characters of The Wizard of Oz so Marge could paint them on the wall. Homer is also seen as the Wizard of Oz.
- Louie mentions Costco.
- At Moe's, Maggie whistles the traditional children song "Old MacDonald Had a Far".
- Abe tells of his childhood appearance on the radio show Your Blow of Blows, a reference to Your Show of Shows, a variety show which aired on television in the early 1950s.
- Lenny is afraid that show business would ruin Maggie's career as a whistler, and compares that to Ron Howard not winning an Oscar since 2002 for A Beautiful Mind.
