Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to the song "Hail to the Chief", best known as the personal anthem of the President of the USA.
- The name of the Puber app is a reference to Uber and puberty.
- When Homer uses the Puber app on Bart, Homer calls Bart Aaron Eckhart.
- Things Homer drunk-bought from eBay include:
- A California Raisins lunch box. The California Raisins were a fictional rhythm and blues animated musical group that was popular from 1986 to 2002.
- Paternity episodes from Maury by TV personality Maury Povich.
- The family receives a flier from Lowe's, the American retail company specializing in home improvement.
Artie Ziff's hologram features rapper Tupac Shakur. Some of his tattoos parody those he had in real life

- Lisa reads E. B. White's novel Charlotte's Web to the class, mentioning the protagonists, Charlotte the barn spider and Wilbur the pig.
- Elizabeth Hoover consumed Zoloft, an antidepressant. The label of the medicine includes the production code for the this episode, "ZABF05".
- The woman in the film A Gal's Guide to Wowing the Workplace says that she's wearing a pound of Mary Kay, the multi-level marketing company that sells cosmetics and skin care products.
- "Spring" from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi plays at Artie's wedding, followed up by the "Bridal Chorus" by Richard Wagner.
- Milhouse's honeymoon with Lisa includes two days in Ohio, two days in Michigan and a visit to Ontario, Canada. In the drawings he made, the Uniroyal Giant Tire and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library, both located in Michigan, can be seen.
- When Lisa thinks she can change things by taking advantage of her smiles, she imagines turning the Springfield Elementary School playground into a Zen garden.
- In Lisa's imagination, the bullies use the expression Hear, hear to agree with Martin. This expression is of common use in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

- When the robots fly away after building the orphanage, Artie mentions that none of them had been given wings, to what Marge says "Life finds a way". This is a reference to Dr. Ian Malcolm's signature line in Jurassic Park that has become synonymous with actor Jeff Goldblum and the franchise itself.
- During the credits, a future Lisa is presenting her book Smiling Is for Suckers on the The Oprah Winfrey Show.

- Kent Brockman is initially colored incorrectly at Artie's wedding, having cream hair and suit. He then goes back to having white hair and a brown suit shortly after.
