- The title of the episode is a reference to the 1968 song "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by rock band Tommy James and the Shondells.
- The song also plays during the crystal dream sequence.
- Marge said that every time Ann Coulter has a cold, Homer thinks it's Marge.
- After being given Chillaxodol, Bart dances Gangsta Walking, also known as juking, that began among African-American communities in Memphis, Tennessee.
- FAO Quartz is a reference to the toy store FAO Schwarz. The books sold at this store, which are supported by a statue of Buddha, make references to New Age belief concepts:
- Aura, Aura, Aura refers to an aura, an energy field that reflects the state of being and health.
- Everybody Goops is a play-on-words of the children's book Everybody Poops, and a reference to the company Goop, which was launched as a newsletter providing New Age advice.
- How To Pronounce Feng Shui, a reference to Feng shui, a traditional practice that claims to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment.
- Eat My Quartz, parodying Eat My Dust! and referencing the quartz crystals are often used in crystal healing.
- 1001 Names for New Age Babies parodies 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and reference the concept of New Age.
- The New age clerk uses the term Shalom to say "hello" and "peace" to Marge. Shalom is a Hebrew word meaning "peace" and can also be used idiomatically to mean "hello".
