The Greatest Story Ever Holed[edit]
- The segment title is a pun on the film The Greatest Story Ever Told.
- The segment is a reference to the Large Hadron Collider.
- The song "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" from the album Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss plays during the montage of the family throwing things into the black hole.
- Comic Book Guy throws a DVD copy of the Disney film The Black Hole into the black hole.

Goofs[edit]
- In "The Greatest Story Ever Holed", Principal Skinner gets sucked into the black hole twice.
- Homer's fingers return to normal in several shots when entering the black hole and on the planet.
- In the shot of the Black hole aliens with the Springfieldians in the background, Legs has Louie's colors and Arnie Pye has Gil's.
- In "The Greatest Story Ever Holed", Milhouse's eyebrows are red (see picture on right).
Continuity[edit]
- The third story contains a number of references to the Season 2 episode "The Way We Was", most prominent is the detention room scene where Marge and Homer initially fell in love.
