Recreating romantic comedy Annie Hall with Bart in the Woody Allen part and Lisa in the Diane Keaton part.
- The episode title is a pun on the song "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing".
- The song has also been referenced in the title of the episode "Love Is a Many-Strangled Thing", from Season 22.
- The final scene is nod to the film Annie Hall. With Bart's appearance and speaking style is a parody of Woody Allen's character Alvy Singer and Lisa as Annie Hall.

- When singing "Ode to Forgiveness", a parody of the "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Homer sings the line: "The melody is by Beethoven" and Bart then sings: "Not bad for a movie dog". Homer is referring to the composer while Bart is referring to the film Beethoven.
