Cultural references[edit]
- The name is a reference to the film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
- The film has also been referenced in the title of the segment "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid", from the episode "Treehouse of Horror XVII" from Season 18.
- When Bart and T-Rex fight, the band plays the "fight scene" music from Star Trek: The Original Series, first heard in the episode "Amok Time".
- Terrence says that his pet armadillo is Mexican Chuey, not Star Wars Chewie. Homer then says that Star Wars Chewie is a man in a suit so he is not scary.
- Terrence's business, Devil's Donuts, is a parody of Voodoo Donut
- T-Rex has a banner for West Ham United F.C. in his room
- Terrence compares Flanders to "the dad in a Wes Anderson movie"
- Lisa reads Asterix in the cool family's house
- Disco Stu is seen wearing a helmet similar to the one worn by Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk
- The scene where Homer and Marge are talking things over with the cool parents, after Bart got in a fight with T-Rex, is a possible reference to the movie Carnage.
- A poster in T.rex's room references the kaiju Kamacuras and Japanese monster movies in general.
- Homer says he only knows actor David Cross from the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.
- Homer says he knows Van Halen and thinks they keep getting better, possibly referring to how many people are split between Sammy Hager & David Lee Roth's time as leader of the band.
Trivia[edit]
- Lisa was the only Simpson kid who Marge fed with her breasts, which maybe explains her intelligence.
Goofs[edit]
- Lenny has a Russian Nesting Donut in one scene, but in the scene before, his donut is normal. In the scene where Homer discovers that the box is empty, Lenny's donut is also normal. In that scene, however, there are holes in the donut where the 'Russian Nesting' donuts would be.
- Homer's suspenders change. The two straps have two sets of clips at one point but when Marge is nagging Homer in their bedroom there are no clips on the back of the suspenders. Towards the end, the clips vanish as well.
- Things in the Devil Donuts donut cart change around in scenes where we see the inside of the cart.
- When Homer says "Can I man hug you?", his mouth's movements don't match up with the words he says.
- In the split second where 740 Evergreen Terrace is in its old form before shifting to its new form, the front of the house looks slanted.
- The Simpsons' trip to the newly refurbished 740 Evergreen Terrace is shorter than it should be, and it seems like the family have gone through a wall.
- When Homer is introducing 'Bungee-Jump' and 'Viral Video', the words he's saying don't match his mouth's movements.
