Synopsis[edit]

Homer strikes up an unlikely friendship with Kirk Van Houten, which leads to them launching a hugely successful business venture together - a "crumbless" cracker that sweeps the nation. But when Kirk's darkest secrets are revealed, Homer has to choose between his family and his fortune... and may just end up going in jail.

Plot[edit]

Marge and Maggie are attending Mayor Quimby's inauguration of a freeway wildlife crossing. Lisa is the one who presents it, as she's the one who pestered him enough to make it a reality, to stop the death of animals on the freeway. Once the animals see the new crossing, they cross, but they head straight for the Pell Mell Pill Mill pharmaceutical factory, where they take several tons of drugs and rampage through town.

Homer and Bart are heading to Van Houten house, and Homer asks Bart not to let him get into a conversation with Kirk, so he pushes him out of the car, but Kirk jumps on it instead, making Homer stop suddenly to make him watch his new sprinkler. When the animals come trampling down the street, they retreat inside the house, with Homer being forced in by Bart.

Mayor Quimby is forced to tell people to shelter in place while the animals rampage, and because of this, Homer and Bart stay at the house, seeing how weirdly the Van Houtens behave in normal life. While Barney walks with a bear while drunk, Homer starts relating to him how Marge doesn't let him eat in bed because he leaves crumbs on it, and when the time comes to leave, once all the animals have calmed down, they speed away.

At home that night, they tell the rest of the family about the weird antics, but soon the doorbell rings, and it's Kirk. He has an idea to solve the issue with the crumbs, which is to create a crumb-free cracker, using the fact his windshield didn't crack after some kids threw apples at his car, and for once, it worked. Kirk then asks Homer to quit his job and partner with him in a new cracker company, and he agrees.

At Cost-Lo, they start selling the Kirkers Crackers, and people are enthusiastic. At Chez 'Zerz, Kirk celebrates the success with both families, but he starts acting weird, and outside, Dr. Hibbert tells them he suffers from bipolar disorder. He ran out of his meds during the animal rampage, and then he refused to take them afterward. Marge goes to their new house to talk to Luann about her concerns about the situation, but she completely ignores it, saying it's solved with money.

On CNBC, Kirk continues his weird behavior to the point of calling himself savior of humanity, proposing it be taken to the ocean floor using a high-speed aquatic rocket. Due to his actions, the stocks continue to fall, just as he does in the fake city behind the screen, since he doesn't feel well. Later at the factory, FBI intervenes after he stole money to fund the rocket, and the Salty Edible Commission intervenes, including raiding the Simpson house.

However, Homer has a plan to take the fall for Kirk, so their share will make them rich. Against Marge's judgment, Homer takes the fall and goes to jail, while Kirk keeps living like hell. In the end, Marge talks him into getting the pills and confessing to the FBI. To expedite the rescue, Kirk takes the actual Aqua Rocket that he built. In the end, Kirk confesses, having reverted to his old self.
