Synopsis[edit]
- "Bart runs against Mayor Quimby's son for student council president, while Lisa learns troubling secrets about the Quimby clan... and about the Simpsons."
Plot[edit]
At the First Church of Springfield, during the sermon, Alice Glick dies. The school then proceeds to make a ceremony in memory of her since she left her entire estate to it to fund the new music program, but Joe Quimby III intervenes, proposing that she intended to fund a music festival, the "Springfield Elementary Music Fest", inviting bands including Chunk Mafia, and he says that it'll become a reality when he becomes student council president. Lisa opposes it, but Mayor Quimby bribes the kids with frozen yogurt. Lisa tells Skinner that they run the town forever with no struggle, but the story of the family is revealed.
100 years prior, the Quimby family is struggling to find something to eat when the mother finds a turnip, but Joe Quimby, Sr. steals it and flees town on a ship with it, arriving in Springfield. Back in the present, Joe Quimby III is bouncing on a bounce house while Lisa is sulking and wants to go against him in the election, but Devin proposes Bart to be the one, as he's more popular. In the past, in 1929, Senior and Iggy Wiggum can't find a better job due to being Irish and watch the Saint Patrick's Day's parade.
They're enjoying it from the sidewalk before being beaten by the bullies' grandpas. Senior tries to get a job from Rigatoni Spanucci but gets rejected. Later at the Feast of the Seven Slobs, Senior chokes him to death at his door while leaving a fake testament giving him all of Rigatoni's money. With the money, he conquers the industry and thinks of running for city council but gets laughed at for being Irish. Then the newspaper boy delivers the news of his son being born, surprising him, and thus Joe Quimby is born.
Back in the present, Lisa presents the idea to Bart, but he refuses, being excited for the festival as a fan of Chunk Mafia, like Homer. When she proposes using Skinner as a target for his presidential points, he accepts. Joe, however, creates an attack ad on the premise of Bart and fart rhyming. When Lisa searches for a counteraction, she finds out that Joe Quimby gets married to Marge's aunt Beatrice Bouvier. In the past, they hook up at a party and go to the Feast of the Seven Slobs, inviting her to be his campaign manager, then marrying her during the campaign.
In the present, Lisa creates a counter ad and it turns around the polls to be two to two. Back in the past, during the wedding, Senior calls Joe to his office, telling him that for the publicity he needs to have mistresses. He breaks the news to Beatrice, telling her he'll never cheat on her, though she doesn't accept it and leaves him after telling a sad truth to Marge about princesses and "happily ever after" not being real.
Back in the present, Joe wins the election and tells Lisa that his father wants her on his team. In the past, on a rebate, Quimby confesses to the public he doesn't cheat and the people turn on him, and his father has a heart attack, and his last words are about how Quimby brings shame on the family name. When Quimby cries asking for a way to make it right, his father comes back to life just to tell him to raise a son to succeed where he fails.
In the present, Lisa and Marge go to Beatrice's house, and Marge confronts her on what happens that day, with Beatrice telling her what happens with Quimby, and they reconcile. When Lisa hears the story, she writes Joe's first speech of his administration. It tells the story of how his family runs their business, filled with ambition instead of love, and that he steps down from it, giving the role to Bart. However, Chalmers steps in, saying that the rules say that the next in line of succession is the Chief Hall Monitor, Martin Prince, who saves the music program. Joe says to his father that he's sorry, but Quimby tells him he's proud of him and they embrace.
