Synopsis

"Television producer Mary Tannenbaum comes to Springfield to help with the film A Christmas Ornament for Christmas, which is being filmed there. While there, she meets Seymour Skinner, and the two start falling for each other. Mary sets to work finishing the film and sorting out her love life."

Plot

At Heartmark Channel studios, Mary Tannenbaum is praised for her work in the mysteries division and gets offered the role of president of the Homemaker Mysteries division. However, to secure the promotion, she must help with the movie A Christmas Ornament for Christmas, and is sent to Springfield, where Moe picks her up and takes her to the Simpson home.

She is greeted by Marge, as the house has been adapted as an Airbnb, and she is set to sleep in Bart's room. Mary tells Marge about her dislike of Christmas movies, while Marge tries to express how much she loves them. The next morning, Marge offers her brunch, but Mary declines and heads to Skip's Diner, where people—including Skinner—mock her fancy breakfast requests at Lunchlady Dora's counter, noting she's used to big city diners.

In the town center, the movie set is under preparation, but problems arise, including gazebo construction and someone interfering—whom Mary discovers is Skinner. He offers to help with the carpentry if she assists in promoting his lettuce and tomato festival.

Mary reports the progress to her boss, but he informs her she must stay until the end of production or she will lose the promotion. Meanwhile, Homer sees an opportunity to help by gathering fake snow materials from around town, while Bart sulks over losing his room.

Mary invites Skinner to take a break and compliments his talent, but when her fiancé calls to check in, she realizes she is starting to fall for Skinner. That night, Bart ends up sleeping in the same bed as his sisters, Snowball and Santa's Little Helper, trapped between them. When he tries to sleep in Homer and Marge's room, he finds two crew members in their bed and becomes fed up.

The next day, Mary tells Marge the town's Christmas aesthetic is lacking, but she comes up with an idea: transforming the town center into a Christmas-themed lettuce and tomato festival and inviting the townspeople to join.

Skinner becomes angry that the festival is altered for the movie, but the townspeople appear happy—until Bart sabotages it by turning the fake snow blower from flurries to blizzard mode, ruining the set and trapping Mary and Skinner in the gazebo amid the bizarre materials Homer collected.

That evening, the two grow closer and spend the night together. In the morning, Skinner brings her coffee the way she likes it—just like in the big city—but her fiancé arrives and causes a rift between them. Mary flees, only to run into Bart, who shows the town what she really thinks of them.

The townspeople abandon the set, and the situation worsens when the same two crew members accidentally set the set on fire. Back at the house, Mary tells Marge she hates Christmas movies because her father was trampled to death during a scene for one, and she explains how her perspective has changed after her time in Springfield.

Unbeknownst to her, Lisa and Bart film the moment. When Moe drives her to the airport, he instead takes her to the film set, which the townspeople are rebuilding after seeing the video. Her fiancé shows up and demands she choose between him and Skinner.

When Mary chooses Skinner, he rejects her for making such a quick decision. They reunite anyway, with her fiancé remarking it's the second time this has happened. That night, the family sits on the couch watching the completed movie, but only Marge enjoys it—so the rest of the family leaves her alone to watch more Christmas films while she sips wine.
