"Sorry Not Sorry" is the ninth episode of broadcast season 32 of The Simpsons and the six-hundred and ninety-third episode overall. It originally aired on December 6, 2020. The episode was written by Nell Scovell and directed by Rob Oliver.

Synopsis[edit]
- After Miss Hoover gives the entire class B- grades because she is too lazy to grade everyone individually, Lisa calls her a "hack." When Lisa refuses to apologize to her teacher, she begins to learn about Miss Hoover's life struggles.
Plot[edit]
On top of the Simpson House, Homer and Lisa are stargazing, and Lisa feels upset due to what happens at school with Miss Hoover. The previous week, after a greasy breakfast argument, Lisa explains how she builds a mobile for her "Who Inspires You?" project—a recreation of Earth surrounded by satellites, inspired by Gladys West, the mathematician whose work helps create the GPS.
After Homer flashbacks to how it ruins his chances to avoid Patty and Selma's birthday party three weeks earlier, Lisa dreams of getting into Yale using the project. At school, kids start presenting their projects, and Lisa presents hers with a rap, a report, and a statue made of macaroni. Miss Hoover, however, gives her and the rest of the class a B- grade because she can't be bothered to work out grades for everyone individually. When Lisa protests and calls her an uninspiring hack, Miss Hoover sends her to detention, where she is protected from the bullies by Bart.
At home, she refuses to eat dinner and goes under the covers on her bed, where she is joined by Marge, who encourages her to apologize. The next day, Miss Hoover grabs Lisa by the leg and asks if she is ready to apologize, warning that Yale won't accept her otherwise. Lisa again refuses and is sent to detention.
The following day, after being advised by Bart to say "I'm soggy" instead of "I'm sorry," claiming that teachers will hear what they want to hear, she apologizes with "I'm soggy." However, Miss Hoover hears it correctly and sends her to double detention. She then follows Marge's suggestion to visit the Springfield Education Annex to learn how to apologize.
The consultant there suggests walking a mile in the life of the person she needs to apologize to, so Lisa starts following Miss Hoover, discovering how hard her life is due to a back problem that prevents her from teaching properly. To ease her pain, Lisa buys her a reclining chair using her Yale fund, but Miss Hoover doesn't accept the apology, teaching her a lesson about late apologies.
Back in the present, Lisa asks Homer what lesson she learns from the experience, and Marge says she plants a seed that will grow. Everyone eventually joins them on the roof to avoid answering Grampa ringing the bell. At school, Miss Hoover discovers the vibrating function of the chair and ultimately accepts Lisa's apology. She then gives Lisa (and Ralph) a B+ for the project. At home, Bart continues his wordplay with Homer, but Homer catches on quickly.
Ten years later, Lisa is at Yale and finds out her dreams about the annoying singers are true. Back on top of the roof, Homer dreams of being the Red Baron, then cries like Charlie Brown when he wakes up and realizes it was just a dream.
