For the quest in The Simpsons: Tapped Out, see Christmas (Tapped Out quest).
"This could be the miracle that saves the Simpsons' Christmas. If TV has taught me anything, it's that miracles always happen to poor kids at Christmas. It happened to Tiny Tim, it happened to Charlie Brown, it happened to the Smurfs, and it's going to happen to us!"

Christmas is a religious festival celebrated by Christians to commemorate the birth of Jesus. The Simpsons celebrate it.

History[edit]

On Christmas, the Simpsons have often had arguments over things. One year, Homer spent all their money on a present for himself. But after seeing a TV Movie about Christmas he quickly realized how much selfish was he being. After that, he started doing good actions for other people: He lent his old clothes to hobos, he offered food to homeless people, etc. However, Flanders started being jealous of Homer and decided to donate free Christmas presents to all Springfield citizens. Lisa told Homer that Buddhists think that «presents are material goods, and attachment to material goods kills the soul».

Then, Homer sneaked into springfieldians' houses to steal the presents Flanders gave to all the citizens and went to Springfield Square to burn all the presents. However, people stopped him.[1]

Another year, Bart accidentally destroyed all the presents and decorations and made up a story about being robbed by a crazy Scottish hairy man. This caused all the citizens in Springfield to feel sorry about the Simpsons and they decided to donate some money to the Simpson family, which made Bart feel more guilty.

Some time after that, Bart couldn't suppress the feeling of guiltiness and told all the truth through TV and all the neighbours got mad at the Simpsons as they lied to them and everyone in Springfield took everything from the Simpsons house, except for a little towel, and the Simpsons started to fight for the possession of that towel.[2]

Another year, Gil stayed in the house and ruined Christmas for everyone, specially for Marge who wanted him to leave their house after Christmas, however, he stayed in for a some more time than what Marge wanted.[3]

Another year, the Simpsons weren't able to afford all the Christmas spendings and had to turn their house into a hostel for tourists who came to Springfield because it was the only city with snow during Christmas. Marge rapidly started to get angry with their guests and, at the end, she got on with them.

However, there are some good Christmases. They got Santa's Little Helper for Christmas one time after he was abandoned by his owner.[4]

Non-canon[edit]

Homer once told the Story of the First Christmas Ever when the Reverend wasn't able to do the Christmas' sermon. The story was about Saint Joseph, Mary and Jesus. It was basically the story of the Nativity of Jesus.[5]

In an other occasion, Grampa told Bart and Lisa that he wanted to end with Santa Claus because he left him trapped in a desert island with Mr. Burns during WWII.[5]

In another occasion, Homer had to find the perfect Christmas present for Marge on Christmas Eve, which caused that all the stores had already been closed. Homer returned home where Marge gave him her present to him. He unwrapped it and it was no other thing but a present to Marge; so Marge's present to Homer was a present that Homer could give to Marge because she had already assumed that Homer would forget about a present for her.[5]

When Kang and Kodos realized that there was a Halloween episode in November, they then said that they had already put their Christmas decorations up, and showed their fireplace with the decorations.[6]

On one occasion, Bart went to the North Pole with the Polar Express to express his complaints to Santa Claus but Santa told him that he was broke as giving free gifts with nothing in exchange is not a good business, and that he had so huge economic problems that he had to eat his own reindeer.[7]

In the future, Bart and his sons, Lisa and Zia Simpson and Maggie come back home for Christmas to spend it as a family.[8]
