- The episode title is a possible reference to the painting Whistler's Mother.
- Homer recreates the British accent of Michael Caine, who portrays Alfred Pennyworth, the butler of Batman (Bruce Wayne) in Batman Begins.
- Helen Lovejoy criticizes Marge's sense of style, referring to her house like visiting The Flintstones, while Santa's Little Helper passes by holding a giant bone in his mouth.
