At Heartmark Channel studios, Mary Tannenbaum is praised for her work on the mysteries division, and she gets offered to become president of the Homemaker Mysteries division, however to do so, she needs to help with the movie A Christmas Ornament for Christmas, and she gets sent to Springfield, where she is picked up by Moe and taken to the Simpson Home.
She's greeted by Marge, as the house has been adapted as a airbnb, and she'd sleep in Bart's room. Mary tells Marge of her hate for Christmas movies, while Marge is trying to tell her how much she loves them. The next morning, she tries to offer her brunch, but she refuses and goes to Skip's Diner, where people, including Skinner make fun of her requests for breakfast at Lunchlady Dora being too fancy for a small town diner, her being used to the ones in the big city.
At the center of town, the movie scene is being prepared, and there're many problems, including building gazebos and a person interfering, which she finds out is Skinner. He offers to help with the carpentry if she helps with the promotion of his Lettuce and tomato festival he's trying to promote in town.
She reports the success on fixing the movie scene to the boss but he informed her that she has to stay till the end of the production or she won't get the promotion, while Homer finds the perfect opportunity to help in the production by collecting fake snow material around town, and Bart is sulking over having no place to sleep.
Mary invites Skinner on a break on his work and points out how he's great with his talent, but while his fiancé calls to check on her, she finds herself falling in love with him. That night, Bart finds himself having to sleep with his sisters, Snowball and Santa's Little Helper on one bed, trapped in the middle of them, but when he goes to Homer and Marge's room to sleep with them, he finds two crew members sleeping on the bed, and he has had enough.
The next day, Mary points out to Marge how they've problems programming Christmas look in town, but she gets an idea on how to fix it, by using the festival and transforming the town center into it using the vegetables, inviting people of the town in.
Skinner gets angry at how the festival was changed for the movie, but people seems happy, till Bart arrives to ruin it, changing the flow of fake snow blower from flurries to blizzard speed, ruining the set and trapping Skinner and Mary in the gazebo with no way out of the snow made out of weird materials Homer used.
During the evening they get closer and slept together till morning when Skinner brought her coffee the way she likes from the big city, but then her fiancé arrives at the scene, dividing them and having her escape, just to be met by Bart, showing off to the people of Springfield what she thought of them.
The people left the scene and the movie was ruined, even more when the two crew members from before set the set on fire. At home, Mary explains to Marge how she hates Christmas movies because his father was trampled to death while screening a scene for one, and how she really felt after living in the town.
Unknown to her, Lisa and Bart were filming the scene, and when Moe was taking her to the airport in the taxi, he took her to the film set where the people were rebuilding it after seeing the video. Her fiancé showed up and told her to choose between him and Skinner.
When Mary chooses Skinner, he refused because of her poor decision-making for choosing so quickly, so they go back together, with her fiancé saying it's the second time it happened. That night, the family are on the couch watching the finished movie, and Marge is the only one enjoying it so the whole family leaves her alone to watch more Christmas movies, while sipping wine.
