Synopsis[edit]
- "Odd couple Skinner and Chalmers embark on an 800-mile car ride to Cincinnati to attend an administrator's convention. But whether they reach their destination without killing each other first is anyone's guess."
Plot[edit]
At the school, a staff reunion is held by Superintendent Chalmers, talking about principal Principal Duggins situation in the school, and about the national administrator's convention, Edu-Con, in Cincinnati, and decides to take Principal Finch as his plus-one instead of Principal Skinner.
During detention, Bart urges Skinner to step up his game to win the spot, and when Finch calls Chalmers informing him of being sick, Skinner takes his chance, and Chalmers agrees reluctantly. However, on board, Chalmers has panic attacks due to his fear of flights and they get kicked out upon landing back at Springfield International Airport.
Their only other choice is to travel together on Agnes' Buick for 800 miles. Bored by Skinner's discussions on chili, Chalmers pick up some hitchhikers, which start improvising Shakespeare, annoying him more, to the point of almost colliding with a truck and ending up hitting a silo, destroying the car, with their wallets and luggage inside.
At the Conklin County Courthouse, Judge J.T. Winchester is in a bad mood when her son did her manicure badly, so Skinner fixes her up and she gives them a new car to ride on, her Cutlass.
Halfway through the journey, they stop at The Greasy Chain, a cyclist bar, and ask for beers, but the bartender points out they don't serve them, and Chalmers starts a chain of events where the cyclist start following them on the road, enraged by the name calling and him breaking their bike computers.
When the bikers cause them to car spin and hit a pole, Skinner abandons the car, leaving Chalmers alone, but he returns with veterans from the U.S. Armed Forces in wheel chair, armed with big biceps. The cyclist leave in the support van followed by the veterans.
In the night, they rest at the Tuckernuck Inn, and the next morning, Skinner overhears a conversation between Chalmers and Finch, saying he'd be fired so Finch could join the school and Chalmers agrees to keep his word.
In the fight that occurs right after Skinner reveals he was the one that put black mold in Finch's poké while Chalmers reveals how he never liked him. Skinner leaves, while Chalmers hitchhikes on a spaghetti truck, arriving at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati, however they find out that they switched their jackets and Skinner has Chalmers' speech cards.
Chalmers gets called on the stand and starts telling the story of his trip, but soon realizes how much Skinner means to him, and Skinner arrives just in time delivering the cards and they hug. Chalmers delivers his speech and back at school Skinner delivers the news to Bart, having earned the respect of the kids at the playground.
At the Simpsons House, the family reunites, as Marge announces they're going to watch improv Shakespeare, where they watch the improv group from before perform, while Skinner and Chalmers are seen dining together at the Skyline Chili.
