The Good, the Bart, and the Loki is a Marvel themed special The Simpsons short. It was released on Disney+ on July 7, 2021. The short was written by Elisabeth Kiernan Averick, Jessica Conrad, John Frink, Al Jean, and Jeff Westbrook and was directed by David Silverman. It guest stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Loki has been banished from Asgard and finds himself in Springfield, where he teams up with Bart Simpson."
Plot[edit]
On the Bifröst, the rainbow bridge outside of Asgard, Odin sentences Loki to banishment on Earth. When Loki asks where he will be going to, Odin tells Loki that he will be sent to Springfield, to Loki's horror. Loki is then kicked off the bridge by Odin and he falls to Springfield, landing next to Bart's treehouse. Bart hears the noise and asks Loki if he can help him. Loki then asks Bart if he knows what it's like to have a distant, abusive father and a blond-haired, perfect sibling. Bart then tells Loki that he has just the family for him.
Loki has dinner with the Simpson family when Homer asks him if he can turn one pork chop into two. Loki does this and Homer begins to worship him. Lisa then says that the world doesn't need more pork chops, so Bart tells Loki to get rid of Lisa. Loki sends Lisa to Asgard, where she ends up in the same room as Fenris Wolf and Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. Lisa accidentally knocks Mjolnir off the wall and decides to put it back. The Good, the Bart, and the Loki was announced on June 30, 2021.[1] Tom Hiddleston, the actor for Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also confirmed to be voicing Loki in the short.[2]
The short was started on April 2, 2021, with the first board reel being finished a week later. Animation for the short started at the beginning of May.[3] The Lisa vs. Loki fight was originally intended to take place at Springfield Elementary School. It was later changed to the Simpsons' front lawn.[4]
The music in the short was mostly from the Marvel films. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige allowed the producers of The Simpsons to use the Avengers music.[5]
Lisa becoming Thor was inspired by the news that Jane Foster would become Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. The final scene of the short, taking place at the Time Variance Authority, was inspired by the first episode of Loki, which aired on June 9, 2021, less than a month before the short was released. The Simpsons executive producer James L. Brooks decided that they had to do something based on Loki and they finished the scene in a week.[6]
