Cultural references[edit]
- The episode's title is a reference to the procedural law of habeas corpus.
- The episode's couch gag is based on Google Chrome's Dinosaur Game, the famous browser game where the player guides a pixelated t-rex across a side-scrolling landscape.
- The majority of the people from Springfield are in favor of not celebrating Columbus Day due to Christopher Columbus' problematic behavior.
- Opposition to Columbus celebrations has been a topic of debate for many years, the main reasons include the treatment of the indigenous populations during European colonization and Christopher Columbus himself, considered to have exploited and enslaved indigenous population.
- All of the characters not in favor of banning the celebration have an Italian background. Christopher Columbus was born in the Republic of Genoa, now Italy.
- Helen Lovejoy is worried that one of the books in the DIY free libraries might be the Kama Sutra.
- According to Skinner, the public school library does not have books written after 1945, making the children think that Iceland is still a kingdom. The Kingdom of Iceland lasted until 17 June 1944, to then become a republic.
- Agnes is worried that the DIY libraries might be painted with an "unauthorized shade of white", and cites the example of Swiss Coffee. This shade of white was created by Benjamin Moore & Co. an American paint manufacturer. Some of the names of the color shades created by this company have been accused of being racist, with some having to be renamed after a lawsuit.
- Homer thinks the Titanic was shot down. He also thinks the tortoise lost the race in "The Tortoise and the Hare".
- When discussing with the Springfield Zoo director, Homer says he has seen the 2011 fantasy comedy film Zookeeper nineteen times. He also mentions Sylvester Stallone's role as the voice of Joe, the African Lion.
- Facelook is a parody of Facebook.
- The plot of the episode with Homer and the Facelook community trying to find Slow Leonard is inspired by Netflix's Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer series.
- Homer thinks that Pete the Prairie Dog is a much more Instagrammable animal compared to Slow Leonard.
- Homer is wearing an apron with pictures of the ingredients of paella, a typical dish from Spain. The pictures are inside a pyramid with the Eye of Providence in the top level, parodying the symbolic pyramid in the United States one-dollar bill.
- Marge mentions TikTok.
- Drederick Tatum has an infinity pool in his house.
- The billionaire shown being transfused blood from a tortoise is Jeff Bezos. In 2021, Bezos co-funded Altos Labs, a well-funded biotechnology company dedicated to harnessing cellular reprogramming to develop longevity therapeutics.
- Homer mentions Albert Einstein and Sherlock Holmes.
- Gil and Elizabeth Hoover are getting married in "Chem Trail Island", a reference to the Chemtrail conspiracy theory.
- The song "I Don't Know Any History" by Superintendent Chalmers is a parody of "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke. During this song about conspiracies:
- Chalmers says that there are microchips in Charleston Chew, the candy bar.
- The line "the virus was caused by 5G" is a reference to the theory that 5G technology caused the COVID-19 outbreak.
- The Zoo director owns a Toyota Prius.
- The robot detectors where made of hair dryers and old video games. Comic Book Guy's detector mentions Dr. J, an American former professional basketball player.
- On the Springfield Shopper, the main article is about Disney returning FOX "It's good to feel clean again", a reference to Disney buying FOX.
- Mrs. McClellan's Evidence Yarn gets footage from different conspiracy communities. Some of them include:
- Declan Desmond and Groundskeeper Willie trying to find Springfield's Lake Monster, a parody of the Loch Ness Monster.
- The contradictory statements regarding the location of Springfield.
- German businessmen Hans and Horst trying to figure out if former Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel was born in Brazil.
- The El Chemistri chef and Eduardo Barcelona had a conspiracy theory together about fake saffron being used in paella.
