Cultural references[edit]
- The episode title is a reference to the 1986 action drama film Top Gun, and to the unofficial enforcer role in ice hockey, also known as the "goon".
- The Top Goon Academy is a parody of the Top Gun Academy.
- A parody of the instrumental rock composition "Top Gun Anthem" is heard in several scenes throughout the episode.
- King Toot's Kawabashi Leaf Ninja blower is a pun on Kawasaki Ninja, a name given to several series of Kawasaki sport bikes.
The costumes during Halloween include Barney as Wario, Carl as Spider-Man, Homer as George Washington and Lenny as a guard from Squid Game
- The celebration days at Moe's include:
- Valentine's Day
- Saint Patrick's Day, also known as St. Paddy's.
