- The episode's title is a pun on the James Bond film From Russia with Love.
- The drinks advertised close to Moe's are parodies of real-world drinks:
- Johnny Stumbler is a parody of Johnnie Walker, the famous brand of whiskey.

- Marge says that sometimes arranged marriages work out, mentioning Tevye and Golde from Fiddler on the Roof. Tevye and Golde, the parents in the story, have an arranged marriage. Despite the lack of romantic love at the outset, their marriage is portrayed as stable and enduring.
- Lisa provided a counterexample to Marge's reasoning by mentioning Tzeitel, the daughter of Tevye and Golde, who does not follow the tradition of arranged marriage. Tzeitel rejects the match arranged for her with the wealthy but older Lazar Wolf, preferring to marry Motel, the poor tailor whom she loves.
- Anastasia chased out Moose and Squirrel from Moe's. This is a pun on the cartoon The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends, which had a moose (Bullwinkle J. Moose) and a squirrel (Rocky the Flying Squirrel) as main characters.
