Cultural references[edit]
- The title of the episode is a reference to the fictional character Atticus Finch from the 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
- Lisa is reading the novel in the episode. Later, she and Homer watch the movie based on the novel. Afterwards Bart reads a parody of it called To Mock a Killing Bird.
- Watching the movie, Homer waves two opposing pennants: one with lettering "Yay Radley" and one with "Boo Radley", Boo Radley being a key character in the story.
- In the school play, Nelson plays a parody of Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men, including use of a captive bolt pistol and term of address "Friendo".
- The shops at Springfield Mall:
- Poverty Barn is a parody of Pottery Barn.
- Toys Were Us is a parody of Toys "R" Us.
- Goodbye Kitty is a parody of Hello Kitty.
- Destitution Hardware is a parody of Restoration Hardware.
- Kent Brockman interviews three blue-collar men who voted for Donald Trump, asking them how they feel now.
- Homer references The Powerpuff Girls opening saying "Sugar and spice and everything...", which in turn comes from the nursery rhyme "What Are Little Boys Made Of?".
- Clothing lines in Wee Madame:
- Twerking Girl is a reference to Working Girl and twerking.
- Ho Sweet Ho is a reference to the saying "home sweet home".
- Call of Booty is a reference to Call of Duty.
- Raggedy Anorexic is a reference to Raggedy Ann.

- Shauna parodies Prince's "We're gonna party like it's 1999' with '5799' (2038 to 2039 in the Hebrew calendar).

- The "know-it-all Belgian" to whom he refers is Hercule Poirot.
- At the end, Homer's head is mounted on a R2-D2-looking robot.
- The episode was dedicated to Ricky Jay who passed away on November 24, eight days before this episode aired.

- Homer mistook the 7-day weather forecast for the winning lottery numbers. The meteorologist on TV was previously seen when Homer was encouraged by his hallucination of Dr. Stradivarius Cain to build up his confidence by flirt with strangers and walked to her and said, "You know what wood makes the best ventriloquist dummy? Maple." ("The Spy Who Learned Me")

- Willie is seen both in the synagogue at Shauna's bat mitzvah and as the server at the reception at the same time.
- One of the people in the angry mob loads a magazine in a revolver.
