Lisa's Sax

Homer:
Boy, the way the Bee Gees played...
Marge:
Movies John Travolta made...
Homer:
Guessing how much Elvis weighed...
Homer and Marge:
Those were the days.
Marge:
And you know where you WEEEEEEEEERE then!!!
Homer:
Watching shows like Gentle Ben.
Homer and Marge:
Mister, we could use a man like Sheriff Lobo again!
Homer:
"Disco Duck" and Fleetwood Mac...
Marge:
Coming out of my 8-track...
Homer and Marge:
Michael Jackson still was black.
Those were the daaaaaaaaaaaaays!
[Canned applause]
Announcer [speaking]:
The Simpsons is filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Reprise

[Note: This version is not on the album.]
"For no reason, here's Apu."
Homer:

Marge:
It's a shame what school can do.
Apu [suddenly appearing outside the open window]:
For no reason, here's Apu.
Homer, Marge and Apu:
Those were the daaaaaaaaaaaaays!

Those Where the Days Mr. Lisa's Opus.png
Homer:
Boy, the way Nirvana played.
Marge:
Steroids caused a hit parade.
Homer:
Beanie Babies had it made.
Homer and Marge:
Those were the days.
Homer:
And we had real heroes then,
Marge:
Like Jar Jar Binks and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Homer and Marge:
Mister we could use a man like Richard Simmons again.
Homer:
Watching films like Gilbert Grape.
Marge:
Then rewinding all the tape.
Homer and Marge:
Gee, my modem dialed up great.
Homer:
[makes dial-up modem noises]
Homer, Marge and Lisa:
Those were the days.

Behind the Laughter

  • "Those Were the Days" is the theme song from the American sitcom All in the Family, which originally aired from 1971 to 1979. It was performed at the beginning of every episode by the two main characters, Archie and Edith Bunker.
  • The music was written by Charles Strouse and the original lyrics by Lee Adams.
  • Homer's and Marge's performance (sitting at the piano, singing slightly off-key, waxing nostalgic in the lyrics) is exactly the same as Archie's and Edith's, except for the parody lyrics.
  • It is part of the "Lisa's Sax (Medley)" track on the album Go Simpsonic with The Simpsons.
