The engine has been around for over 100 years, and has worked at the Springfield Train yard for years, and then was retired. But, years later, during the 100th anniversary, the people of the train yard decided to bring it out of retirement. Coincidentally, the 4th Grade of Springfield Elementary were on a trip to see the engine move again. But, the engine's driver, Kirk Van Houten, only had his 6th Class train driver's license, so he couldn't take them on the train.

Old Steamy is a steam locomotive.

History[edit]

Old Steamy was the first locomotive in Springfield. On the 100th anniversary of the Springfield Train Yard, Bart's fourth grade class visited the Train Yard and Old Steamy. Kirk Van Houten, who was a train engineer at the time, was only allowed to show the class the wheels of the train. As Principal Skinner went to take everyone back to the school bus, Bart, Milhouse, and Martin sneaked onto the train. After a brief fight between Bart and Milhouse, they accidentally started the train and the brake lever broke off.

Principal Skinner chased after the train and managed to climb on, only to find that the train couldn't be stopped. Martin then pointed out that the train tracks were never finished and Old Steamy would fall into the Springfield Gorge. However, the train wouldn't get that far as a fuel truck had fallen over on the rails. As everyone panicked about the train blowing up, it ran out of coal and stopped before it hit the truck.

Behind the Laughter[edit]

The engine's basis is undecidable. The engine appears to be of Baldwin Locomotive Works design, but it's configuration was never made, so it's fictional. The wheel arrangement appears to be a 2-2-4. with a tender, but in some illustrations it appears to be an 0-4-4.
