"Pixelated and Afraid" is the twelth episode of season 33 of The Simpsons and the seven-hundred and eighteenth episode overall. It originally aired on February 27, 2022. The episode was written by John Frink and directed by Chris Clements.
Synopsis
- "When Homer and Marge are lost in an icy wilderness, they must push themselves to their limits to survive."
Plot
Lisa, Marge and Homer is watching a black and white movie, where Mick invites Moira at The Golden Gimlet for their anniversary, and Lisa hopes she'll have the same love that they've when she gets married, while Marge and Homer tell her she'll probably have what they do in 10 years of marriage.
Shortly after Lisa goes to bed while they enjoy another show and the next day, Bart is playing VR with Milhouse and Lisa comes into the room to talk her concerns about their parents' love life, scaring him with the thought of how they'll treat his future girlfriend, obese on the couch, grabbing her with mechanical hands.
To remedy on the situation, they've a talk with them, with Lisa proposing to use their voucher for The Saffron Togetherness Center on top of Honeymoon Mountain. After discussing on what the center offers on the way there, they tell each other they didn't wanna go and Marge tells Homer to turn the car around.
Homer tries to do so but ends up skidding on ice and go off the road, ending up breaking ice on a river and going down it. They swim to safety, while the car is floating down. They're left with no phone and no car stranded.
Destroying the phone, they start a fire and hang their clothes on to dry, while naked. After climbing a tree to asset the situation, Marge finds something red in an opening nearby, but on coming down the branch keeping the clothes drying breakes and they burn down to ashes.
Afterwards they reach the red thing, being a heart-shaped bathtub, and uncover the sign of The Cabins at Honeymoon Mountain. From a matchbook, they start a new fire with the bathtub filled of leaves and branches, and start making new clothes and a shelter from pieces collected around, before in the night an animal hides in the shadow, watching them.
Time passes and they get hungry, and they can't find any food, even fishes. When Homer starts trashing the water around they eventually catch a fish to cook, but the smoke from the fire attracts the wolverine. To get Marge safe, Homer acts as bait for it climbing a tree, but the wolverine reaches him.
Marge courageously gets out and hands Homer the stick with a statue head attached to defend himself and he kills it. They passionately kiss under the moon and the next day when Homer goes out to collect moss, he finds a park ranger on a bike, but debating on staying, he screws up and the ranger leaves.
Marge suggests following the tracks, so they pack their staff and say good bye to the shack, and pass through the forest till they get to the ranger station, walking slowly and lovely. At the end they enjoy their new favourite show, a lovely sunset, and embrace.
