- The title of the episode is a reference to William Shakespeare's King Lear.
- The song that plays when Homer is trying to stop Bart breaking the violin is "Beethoven's 5th Symphony" by Ludwig van Beethoven.
- Jerk Circle is a reference to the Circle Jerks band.
- Homer's favorite movie is Fast & Furious 6. Marge reminds him that the film is about family, when Homer thinks it's just about cars.
- Morty Szyslak recites part of "A Visit from St. Nicholas" in a Mattress King commercial. He and his children then sing "Silent Night".
- Moe says he'll "go to the mattresses" with his siblings, a reference to the mob saying, that become popular thanks to the movie The Godfather and the TV series The Sopranos.
- The song that plays when Moe and his siblings are sabotaging each other and Homer throws paint on Patty and Selma is "Dies Irae" by Giuseppe Verdi.
