In Lisa's future, several people dressed as Tin Men, a Scarecrow and a Cowardly Lion are seen going to auditions for "Wizard of Oz".
Hugh Parkfield is a parody of English actor Hugh Grant.
A hall on campus is named after Dr. Dre.
When talking to Hugh's parents, Homer talks about the James Bond movie Octopussy.
Martin lived the rest of his life like the Phantom of the Opera under the school, and played a version of "A Fifth of Beethoven" on an electric pipe organ.

This episode takes place in the year 2010, 15 years from 1995, when the episode aired. Unsurprisingly, however, mid to late Season 21 episodes (from "Thursdays with Abie" to "Judge Me Tender") have been set in 2010 like its broadcasting year (2009–2010) and so would early Season 22 episodes (from "Elementary School Musical" to "Donnie Fatso") (2010–2011).
- Homer is 53 years old, Marge is 51, Bart is 25, Lisa is 23 and Maggie is 16.
The Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster is now a digital display, but is not reliable like the old analogue clock was. Whether Big Ben and other bells are still inside is not known.
Marge says that in England a mile is called a kilometer. However, England still uses miles as opposed to kilometers, just like the US.

Maude Flanders appears in the wedding with Ned and others waiting. However, she died in presumably 15 years ago in the episode, "Alone Again, Natura-Diddily" (Although the Season 11 episode's broadcast was set roughly 10 years before this episode)
In addition, Edna appears at the wedding. Edna died in "The Man Who Grew Too Much", or just before it, due to the death of Marcia Wallace.

Lisa is bare foot while sitting on the ground, but when she kisses Hugh, she is wearing her shoes.
When the Simpson family is rudely scarfing down food in front of Hugh, the inside of Maggie's mouth repeatedly turns the color of her skin.
