Cultural references

• The title of the episode is a reference to the season 7 episode "Much Apu About Nothing".
  • The episode title is also a pun on the Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing.
• The Springfield advertisement shows iconic US places such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Liberty Bell, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Mount Rushmore.
• When Chalmers refuses to pay for a $30 sunblock, Apu offers him a free Philadelphia 76ers cap.
• Julio says "We love you, officer Puff 'n' Stuff" to Chief Wiggum. This is a reference to American TV series H.R. Pufnstuf.
• A cover of "The Best" by Tina Turner is heard in the firetruck.
  • The song is played again when the Springfield Fire Department is getting away after failing to extinguish the fire from the Quick & Fresh.
• Wiggum makes reference to Grand Theft Auto.
• When Apu reads Playdude magazine (parody of Playboy) for the first time, he is disappointed when he found an interview with Jim Gaffigan.
• Homer makes Bart promise he will never do pranks again. As Homer wants his son to take it seriously, he forces Bart to promise it as if he was "talking to a dying soldier who was with him all the way from D-Day and got to take his Saint Christopher medal back to his mother".
• Homer references Al Pacino.
• At Springfield General Hospital Apu remembers being on a boat with Sanjay, a tiger, and a wise old fox. This is a reference to Life of Pi, in which the protagonist is an Indian boy stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger.

Apu tries a The Big Bang Theory scratcher. He gets two Sheldons and one Wolowitz, both characters from the sitcom

• One of the scratchers is a The Big Bang Theory one, with images of Sheldon Cooper and Howard Wolowitz.
• Apu asks the waitress for another glass of Chianti.
• Apu references Gunga Din and Archibald Cutter from the movie Gunga Din.
• According to this episode, Apu worked on the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (referred by Jay as Temple of Doom) for three months, and only his hand appears in one shot.
  • Apu also references Steven Spielberg.
• Apu doesn't like his nephew referring to Bombay as Mumbai. Bombay was the city's official name until 1995.

Goofs

• In a scene, Sanjay wears a Kwik-E-Mart employee T-Shirt and then his usual clothes.

• When the refined thief steals Quick & Fresh, the hand that gives him the money is yellow, but only Apu and Jay were at the counter at that time.
• When Manjula was presenting the Quick & Fresh to Apu, the workers push the Kwik-E-Mart picture to Apu's right, but a few seconds later, he jumps to the left to hug the picture.
• When the Police Tank is first seen, Ralph is in the same hatch as Lou, but in later scenes, Ralph is gone.
• Sideshow Mel was shown at the Quick & Fresh when the products start going bad, but a few seconds later, he appears as a firefighter on the firetruck dancing and his skin is yellow.
• When Bart pulls down the switch for Quick & Fresh, the food in the store goes bad immediately, when logically, it would actually take 24 hours for the food to go bad.

• Snake Jailbird's prisoner number is "7F20". Snake made his first appearance in the episode "The War of the Simpsons", which has the production code "7F20".
