"Girls Just Shauna Have Fun" is the nineteenth episode of season 33 of The Simpsons and the seven-hundred and twenty-fifth episode overall. It originally aired on May 1, 2022. The episode was written by Jeff Westbrook and directed by Matthew Nastuk.
Synopsis[edit]
- "When Lisa joins the high school marching band, she finds an unlikely mentor in Shauna Chalmers. Meanwhile, Homer becomes a craft beer brewer."
Plot[edit]
During Dewey Largo's music lesson, Skinner enters the classroom, announcing that due to an injury of the sax player in the Springfield High School band, Lisa has been requested as a substitute. Marge drives Lisa to class, where they start playing the Hawaii Five-0 theme song, before Shauna joins in, playing drums, where the other students picks on her. Lisa tries to talk to her but she snobs her.
At dinner, Lisa starts explaining what happened, while Homer spills hot sauces in his eye, but finds out that she left her music sheets at school and goes to grab them, finding Shauna practicing the drums. After being mean to her again, she changes her mind and invite Lisa to jam at her house the next day. At Chalmers' house, Shauna is mean to her father too, and they leave for the Springfield Mall instead of eating what Chalmers prepared.
Homer goes to the house to pick up Lisa and meets Chalmers, and he has Homer try his brewed beer, and Homer really enjoys it and Chalmers teaches him how to brew it. At the mall, the girls have fun and then go watch A Prom Before Dying and Shauna calls Lisa little sister. In the morning, they wake at the same time to go practice at school, and Marge gets concerned of her influence on Lisa, while Homer is enthusiastic on going to Chalmers' place, where they seem to have founded a brotherhood.
Chalmers tells Homer to brew the next batch, while at home, Marge's reading is interrupted by Lisa and Shauna practicing. In Lisa's room, she pushes Shauna to audition for lead drummer and reluctantly accepts. At the auditions, she destroys the competition, and gets the role, and they get invited to a teen party by Trevor McBride, while Chalmers and Homer create their new beer label, Thirst Trappist Hunky Monks Ale. To get his father distracted and sneaking out beers for the party, Shauna gets Lisa to perform for them in the house, but Homer bumps into Chalmers remote, opening the garage, so the teens grab all the beer instead of just one basket.
At the party, the teens are in love with Lisa's performance, but when Trevor's parents leave, the party transforms, when Trevor brings the beer. Chalmers and Homer find out about the stolen beer and on checking Shauna's Instagram, Chalmers finds out where the stolen beer got taken. Lisa getting lost in the party calls 911, while Chalmers and Homer arrive. The police arrives moments later and arrest them for giving the teens the alcohol.
Lou however finds out that the beer doesn't contain any alcohol, as Homer forgot to put the yeast in, so Chalmers' career is saved. In the meantime, Lisa tells Homer how much she hates Shauna for abandoning her and never wanting to see her again. At home, Lisa reconciles with Maggie, who was angry at her for ignoring her as being her sister. Homer and Marge then get out of the house to have some fun, while the babysitter, Shauna, arrives. She tells Lisa she quit the band too when Lisa was fired when the teen healed, and she started a new punk band. In the end they reconcile and start jamming again.
Reception[edit]
"Girls Just Shauna Have Fun" was nominated for a 2023 Writers Guild of America award in Animation, but it lost to "Rectify" from Undone.[1]
