Synopsis[edit]

After Homer and the kids go on a joyride with Comic Book Guy's car, accidentally destroying a rare comic in the process, Homer must either prove his innocence in court or reconcile with the nerd. The family then works together to create a mitigation video for Comic Book Guy.

Plot[edit]

Homer is dining at The Gilded Truffle using a 100% off coupon he won, while Marge uses the saved money to get a Swedish massage. After the meal, Raphael, the valet, mistakenly gives Homer the keys to a fancy seafoam blue Cadillac Eldorado.

Homer and the kids drive off in the car and enjoy a joyride. When they return to The Gilded Truffle, Comic Book Guy, the car's owner, sues them for grand theft auto. Homer tries to reason with him, but when Comic Book Guy discovers that his copy of Radioactive Man #1 was destroyed during the ride, he insists on pressing charges.

At the Springfield County Court House, Judge Snyder finds Homer guilty, despite a heartfelt apology letter written by Lisa. As the family prepares for the possibility that Homer might go to jail, Marge visits The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop to try reasoning with Comic Book Guy, but he refuses to relent. Lisa then suggests creating a mitigation video, a strategy previously used by Mr. Burns for one of his crimes against Springfield, with help from Guillermo del Toro.

They initially consider hiring Gil Gunderson to film the video, but abandon the idea after learning his camera work is shaky due to a Vitamin E deficiency. Instead, they begin recording testimonials about Homer themselves. When Marge's footage turns out poorly, Lisa uses her skills in Final Cut Pro to edit the video professionally.

Despite the video, Comic Book Guy remains unmoved, and Judge Snyder postpones the verdict until the following day. As a last resort, the family finds a pristine copy of Radioactive Man #1 at Zorbot the Geek. Even this doesn't sway Comic Book Guy—until he notices a rare Welcome Back, Kotter keychain on Homer's keyring.

To make Homer understand how it feels to lose something beloved, Comic Book Guy smashes the keychain with Thor's hammer. He then drops the charges and reconciles with Homer, becoming his best friend. They attend Comic-Con together, while Bart has fun with Skinner by submitting an insulting mitigation video to get out of detention.
