Cultural references[edit]
- Milhouse brought his jacks to the Veteran's Park.
- When parents are flushing kids out of cattails and snaring some in nets, this is a reference to Planet of the Apes when Colonel Taylor and two of his fellow astronauts first encounter human life, only to be victims of an ape hunting party shortly afterwards.
- Bart takes a Troll doll to church. He also sings "Troll Man" to the tune of the song "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave.
- Ms. Albright passes round a replica of the slingshot that David used to slay Goliath.
- Scotchtoberfest is a parody of Oktoberfest.
