Cultural references

The title of the episode is a reference to the Gilbert O'Sullivan hit, "Alone Again (Naturally)". It was also parodied in the episode, "No Loan Again, Naturally".
When the cheerleaders come out during the race, "Get Ready for This" by 2 Unlimited plays.
During Maude's funeral, Groundskeeper Willie plays "Amazing Grace" by John Newton on the bagpipes.
Words Ned spells out while playing Scrabble by himself: Solitary, Alone, Forever, Horny, and Flanswered.
The video game Billy Graham's Bible Blaster, played by Bart with Rod and Todd Flanders, is a spoof of the unlicensed NES game, Bible Adventures.
The background music during Flanders' dating tape is "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred.
Kovenant's name is based on the German thrash metal band Kreator.
Homer mentions Maude could be dating John Wayne, Tupac Shakur and Sherlock Holmes in Heaven.

Ned and Edna finish their dinner at approximately 8:20.
There is an actual band named Covenant in real life (although they are not Christian rock, but rather EBM/Futurepop). Swedish band "Covenant" was founded in 1989 by members Joakim Montelius, Clas Nachmanson, and Eskil Simonsson. The Kovenant is also a Norwegian black metal band. There is no connection between either of these bands and the one appearing in this episode.
Ned and Edna go on a date, and although it does not develop into a relationship in this episode, years later, the two begin a romance, in the Season 22 finale, "The Ned-liest Catch". It is revealed in the Season 23 episode "Ned 'n' Edna's Blend Agenda" that the two have married.

Ned and Edna drink Chateau Maison wine ("The Crepes of Wrath") at their date.
At Maude's funeral, Reverend Lovejoy mentions several events in the show. They are: Apu's marriage and kids ("The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons") and ("Eight Misbehavin'") and the Van Houtens divorce ("A Milhouse Divided").
Homer accidentally lets slip about Amber and Ginger (Homer and Ned's Vegas wives), however he quickly changes the subject. ("Viva Ned Flanders")
The episode makes reference to every major character change throughout the series since Season 6. Apart from the above mentions of Apu becoming a husband and father, and the divorce of Milhouse's parents, the death of Bleeding Gums Murphy, and the romance between Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel are also referred to. Even Lisa's vegetarianism is referred to if you count her disgust after Homer says, "Why have hamburger when you can have steak?"

At the race, the Blue-haired lawyer and Señora Bumblebee Man both have grey hair.
In the opening scene, Maggie is not wearing her bow at first, but then it appears.
Homer makes the dating video and changes scenes with star wipes, but in the actual movie there are no starwipes.
