- A Japanese bookmaker questions being told to make one million books, saying "That's Dilbert territory!".
- Mount Fuji can be seen at the back of the book house.
- One of the robots working at the book factory performs Seppuku, a Japanese ritual for committing suicide.
- The books at Springfield Car Wash:
- Eat, Pray, Love, Divorce is a parody of Eat, Pray, Love.
- You'll See Me Later by Joyce Carol Oates is a reference to Oates guest-starring later in the episode.
- No One Edits Me was written by American author Stephen King.
- Killing Hannity by Bill O'Reilly is a reference to O'Reilly's feud with Sean Hannity.
- The Pink Sedan is a 1986 Plymouth Junkerola.
- Bart thanks Galileo when he is using a telescope.
