- The title of the episode is a reference to William Shakespeare's King Lear.
- The music that plays when Homer is trying to stop Bart breaking the violin is the Symphony #5 in C minor by Ludwig van Beethoven.
- Jerk Circle is a reference to the Circle Jerks band.
- Homer's favorite movie is Fast & Furious 6. Marge reminds him that the film is about family, when Homer thinks it's just about cars.
- Morty Szyslak recites part of "A Visit from St. Nicholas" in a Mattress King commercial. He and his children then sing "Silent Night".
- In another commercial for Mattress King, "Yankee Doodle" plays.
