Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the TV series Pretty Little Liars.
- Marge is hosting book club with A Farewell to Arm by Ernest Hemingway.
- Agnes says to Cletus that Brandine is Jeopardy! smart, while Cletus asks her if she's Celebrity Jeopardy! smart.
- When she shows him the library card, the opening to Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 is plucked by a banjo.
- Lisa reports on the Matilda effect, using Lise Meitner, Rosalind Franklin and Jocelyn Bell Burnell as an example, their picture shown on the board.
- Miss Hoover uses Oogle.
- Brandine reads the book Gray's Anatomy by Henry Gray. The front cover says that it's not based on the TV show, a reference to Grey's Anatomy.
