- The title is either a reference to the song "Boyz-n-the-Hood" by Eazy-E, or the 1991 film Boyz n the Hood.
- The title is also a reference to Season 5 episode "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood".
- Bart's story in the episode is based on the black comedy film Get Duked!
- Dolph says that the name "Axel" is reserved for Axl Rose.
