- The episode name is a reference to the sports comedy film The Longest Yard.
- One of the available players went to Starfleet Academy, a reference to Star Trek. One of the teams making an upcoming pick are the Gotham Rogues, a reference to Gotham City and the Rogues' Gallery from DC Comics.
- The fan riots are a reference to the riots the Philadelphia Eagles fans did after the Super Bowl LII.
- Divisions of Burns Co. includes the fictitious Waystar Royco conglomerate from HBO drama Succession, the reboot of Mad About You, the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and associate justice of the Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh.
- Warburton Parker says that liquor brands endorsed by celebrities are all that anybody buys. He then shows a picture of George Clooney with Casamigos Tequila, a real brand owned by Clooney. He then shows a picture of Ryan Reynolds and Aviation Gin, a real brand which Reynolds owns a stake in.
- When trying to come up with a celebrity to endorse Mr. Burns' brandy, Warburton Parker suggests Harrison Ford and Dolly Parton.
