• The title of this episode is a pun on Once Upon a Time in America, the 1984 epic crime film. The film features Jewish-American characters, much as Krusty.
• The episode's billboard gag makes a reference to the Fox Network.
• The episode's chalkboard gag is "The world may end in 2012 but this show won't". This is a reference to the 2009 disaster film 2012, which aired one year before this episode and is based on the 2012 phenomenon.

• The closing caption originally read "The Best is Yet to Come," but was changed when it first aired to "Now stay tuned for three Seth MacFarlane shows," and again in the rerun to "Think of all the things you could be doing instead of wasting your time with this show."
